I should enjoy writing it, and the readers should get something from it.
Rules
The world doesn’t recontextualize itself as something bounded. It is not a dream, it is not a story, it is not presented by an omniscient narrator with a persona. Free will exists, and the future isn’t fixed.
The work is finished when published, and it exists distinct from headcanons. Things which may exist in the universe, but for which the situations for it to happen can’t come about, are “soft canon” from which ideas can be pulled. When something is canon, soft canon is demoted.
The world accomodates what I want to present. Be aware of the format.
Cut more than you think. Existing text has more self-justification that unwritten, so when drafting, do it in a really cheap format so it doesn’t have undue weight.
Discovery in scenes. When I determine scenes (junction points, or joins) that I want to happen, define what must be true for that to be the case, then be aware of this when writing furhter scenes.
